Battle of the Bags: Press vs Attendee

Published: April 9th, 2008 | Category: Security Conferences

For this year’s RSA conference, I am registered as a blogger, which allowed me to get a press credential. This is my first year attending as press, but I’ve covered many other security events like Black Hat, Defcon, and CanSecWest as press. So from past experience, the conference would give away the same SWAG to the attendees and press, but at RSA it was different.

As press, all you get is a blue RSA shoulder bag. The conference attendees get a bunch of stuff like a yellow RSA backpack, a black RSA fleece vest, a TippingPoint notebook, and a SanDisk 2gb USB key. I suppose I shouldn’t complain, but I was always used to getting the same goodies as the regular attendees. Perhaps the RSA conference was always like this?

On another subject, the latest Information Security Magazine was included in the attendee bag, and it contains an article on Pacific Gas & Electric’s new threat methodology. The article is also online at SearchSecurity.com.

Hi. I used a cropped image of your backpack picture in my blog on WSJ.com. I gave you a link. The post won’t go love until tomorrow morning, so if this isn’t cool just drop me a note and I’ll take it down. But I figured it was worth the link love. Nice blog, btw.

@Ben – Go ahead and use the image. Thanks for giving me credit for it and the link.
